GTNA Tool Share Project

Greentree Neighborhood Association

Many of you may have a home or yard project planned but need a certain tool or piece of equipment to complete it that you don't own. It's quite possible that one of your neighbors has that very tool, but you wouldn't know to ask.

To help solve this we are starting a Tool Share Program for GTNA members. The idea is to put GTNA members who are looking for tools in touch with other GTNA members who have tools to lend.

Read on below to learn more!

If you would like to offer your tools to lend out to neighbors once the program starts, please fill out the following form [forthcoming].

Deadline to sign up to be a lender: May 31, 2026
Tool Share Program official start: June 15, 2026

Here's how it will work:

1. Sign up to offer any number of their tools to lend and get added to a Google email group (by May 31).

  • Note: Your name will not be shared until you agree to lend a tool. Only the tools you make available will be listed.

2. Once the program starts (June 15), your neighbors can fill out a Google form to request a tool from the list of those offered by lenders.

  • An email automatically gets sent from this request to all the lenders. The information about the request will be clearly marked in the subject line: “GTNA Tool Share Request – [Tool]” so if you don’t have that tool you can disregard the email right away.
  • If you, the lender, does have that tool, then you can email the neighbor requesting the tool and set up a time for them to borrow it.

Once the program is underway, this page will serve to provide:

  • A link to the form to list the tools people are willing to lend
  • A list of tools (coordinated by the GTNA member leading this effort)
  • A link to a form to request to borrow tools

GTNA Tool Share Rules

1. The GTNA is offering this platform as a way to connect people who need something with people who might be able to solve that need

2. People enter these arrangements voluntarily

3. Any tools offered are people’s personal property. Borrowers should always respect that in dealing with lenders

  • Just because you request a tool doesn't mean it will be fulfilled

4. Borrowers are known to the lenders before the lenders agree to lend

5. Lenders are anonymous to the borrowers until they agree to lend

6. Lenders choose to lend items

7. The GTNA is not responsible for any member tool usage, damage, replacement, return condition, etc.

8. Tool lenders and tool borrowers will make their own agreements about their individual transactions, but always remember to:

  • Inspect the item before lending it out and make sure it is in good condition
  • Use tools safely and with proper training
  • Return items in the same, or better condition than when borrowed
  • Set a date/time for return

9. Make sure expectations for lending and using the tool are clearly stated and agreed on

Keep in mind, as with any new effort, there will likely be glitches along the way as we figure out the best way to do this all. We're excited to build this out and appreciate your involvement!
